Wholly Wholesome Moving to Historic Civil War Mansion
Baked Goods Company to Occupy General Cooper's House in Chester, New Jersey
Morristown, NJ — "Where two centuries ago General Cooper oversaw the milling of wheat to flour, we'll be creating cakes, cookies and breads that we think would make General Cooper and his family proud," said Doon Wintz, CEO of Wholly Wholesome.
In July of 2007, Wholly Wholesome, a NJ based baking company, will move into the Cooper Mansion at 401 Main Street, in Chester, New Jersey, where it will have a dream home for many years to come. In this beautiful building that is on the national historic register list, the company is outfitting a suite of comfortable offices.
Back in the General's time there was no choice but to use natural ingredients. Wholly Wholesome finds it fitting, that 150 years later, they'll be honoring that same tradition by developing natural baked goods right next to the 12 foot stone fireplace where the General's bread was baked.
In 1825, Nathan Cooper bought about 4.5 acres of land that included an old gristmill. In 1866, Cooper's son, General Nathan A. Cooper demolished his childhood home and rebuilt a mansion in its place. The water-powered mill, which Cooper passed to his son, was constantly updated to make the operation more efficient and profitable.
Wholly Wholesome is transforming a part of the mansion into a state of the art test kitchen and bakery for creating and taste testing its new and all natural bakery items.
Wholly Wholesome offers a large selection of all-natural baked goods that are as wholesome as they are delicious. From cakes to cookies, to crumblettes (bite size muffins), organic dinner rolls, organic pie shells and pie crusts, all of Wholly Wholesome's delicious items are all natural, free of trans fats and free of conventionally refined sugar. Most are full of grains, fruits, nuts, fresh butter and rich chocolate. Some items are vegan and dairy free.
Wholly Wholesome bakery items are available at Whole Foods, Kroger, many independent grocery and natural foods stores across the US and in Canada . For more information, a full list of products and a store locator, visit www.whollywholesome.com

The Wholly Healthy Name Change
Wholly Healthy™ is now proud to be named Wholly Wholesome
Morristown, NJ, August 2005 — To keep current with the ever changing perceptions of what's "healthy" and to ensure they do not confuse their broad spectrum of customers, the Wholly Healthy™ brand of wholicious™ baked goods has changed its name to Wholly Wholesome.
Doon Wintz, President says, "We have been considering a name change for awhile now. We know that the concept of 'health' is a personal measurement. Our core natural foods consumer will look at the ingredient legend and make a health value judgment based on the purity of the ingredients and how that relates to their diet. For many consumers in the mainstream, however, the focus is on calories, fat and carbs. Given that our products have always been intended as a wholesome indulgence with pure and natural ingredients, we felt that those mainstream consumers might find the name 'Wholly Healthy™' confusing. Since we are dedicated more to our mission than we are to our brand name, we felt strongly that changing the brand was the right thing to do."
The name Wholly Wholesome is totally in keeping with the company's mission, which has always been to provide baked goods that not only meet, but exceed consumer and market expectations for appearance, taste and purity. Wholly Wholesome more clearly reflects that, with wholesome, delectable baked goods made from truly natural ingredients.
Beginning in fall 2005, Wholly Healthy™ packaging will show the name transition as the word 'healthy' is replaced with the word 'wholesome'. Wholly Wholesome items will continue to be made from only the purest, natural ingredients, have zero grams of trans fats and offer superb taste and convenience- everything consumers have come to expect from Wholly Healthy™. The company has also added a new "Dairy-Free" logo to products that are made without any milk, eggs or butter to better serve customers who are lactose intolerant, vegan or have special dietary needs.
"Wholly Wholesome will continue the tradition of no compromise on taste or quality of ingredients," commented Ken Hines, Vice President, Sales and Marketing." It was these values that attracted me to the company as a customer eight years ago and led me to join the company in 2003; that and the opportunity to give consumers more natural and wholesome options when buying baked goods"
Look for the new Wholly Wholesome packaging in your local health food store or the health food section of your local grocery store this fall season.
Wholly Wholesome Wholicious™ products are wholly delicious, made from the finest wholesome, natural ingredients available. The company is dedicated to providing the very best ready-to-bake, or thaw-and-serve baked goods, so everyone can enjoy "traditional indulgent" baked goods without artificial additives, trans fats or overly processed ingredients. Wholly Wholesome products are available nationwide in the freezer section and in-store bakeries of natural products stores and natural marketplaces within supermarkets, as well as through premium foodservice vendors. The Wholly Lactose Intolerant
Wholly Wholesome Introduces Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie
Morristown, NJ, July 2005 — The company that produces wholicious™, truly natural baked goods, is unveiling their new Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie just in time for the 2005 holiday season.
Pumpkin pie has long been considered a traditional dessert for holiday meals. But until now, those who need to avoid dairy products have missed out on this festive treat.
There are between 30 and 50 million Americans who are lactose intolerant, meaning they are unable to properly digest lactose, a main component in dairy products. In addition, there are thousands of people who choose to live a vegan lifestyle, meaning no animal-derived products are included in their diet. Now with Wholly Wholesome Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie everyone can have their pie and eat it too.
Ingredients such as milk and eggs, an integral part of traditional pumpkin pie, have been eliminated to create Wholly Wholesome Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie, which is suitable for vegans. Using soy as a primary ingredient in place of any dairy products, this Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie is truly natural, just like the entire line of Wholly Wholesome products. True to their mission of making all-natural products with no compromise in taste, this latest offering from Wholly Wholesome stands up to the test. In a recent taste test, when comparing Wholly Wholesome Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie to their original pumpkin pie, consumers could not tell which pie was dairy-free and which was not. As delicious as the original version, the light, flaky crust and creamy pumpkin filling is a must at any holiday table.
Look for Wholly Wholesome Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie this holiday season in the freezer section at your local natural foods store or in the natural foods section of your supermarket.
A Victory for the Food Lovers
Emerging Trend is for Quality over Quantity
Morristown, NJ, March 2005 — Consumers look to desserts and baked goods for comfort and reward. According to Packaged Facts, the frozen desserts business is a $21 billion industry and consumers are loyal to brands of premium and high-end products that they feel they can trust. According to Natural Foods Merchandiser, consumers are seeking brands that provide both value and an eating experience. Companies with sincere passion and integrity, such as baked goods manufacturer Wholly Wholesome, will continue to find a large market share with like-minded consumers.
Popular food magazines, radio shows and enormously popular television programming are creating a more food-savvy American population. People are looking for balanced foods and recognize that low carb and low calorie don't necessarily equal healthy or tasty. Instead, they are seeking premium products that evoke a superior food experience. Consumers are learning that in moderation, these richer, more flavorful foods, satiate their cravings and leave them satisfied longer.
Fueled by popular books such as Mireille Guiliano's French Women Don't Get Fat: The Secrets of Eating for Pleasure and The Fat Fallacy: The French Diet Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss, which emphasize eating premium, satisfying food slowly to keep portions moderate, there is a growing trend towards decadent food in moderation over "lighter" fare in higher quantities. This notion of high quality food being more satisfying and healthy goes along with the movement towards natural products popularized in the late 60's by Laurel Robertson's sensible and groundbreaking guide to wholesome vegetarian cooking Laurel's Kitchen.
The popularity of whole foods and natural products made with a minimum of chemical processes is not new, but in today's busier than ever world it is hard to find products that are truly natural and also convenient. And, with U.S. census data suggesting that small households are the largest and fastest growing segment of the population, more consumers are looking for food products that fit their lifestyle needs for great taste, flexible portions and convenience.
Ken Hines, Vice President of Wholly Wholesome, explains how he believes American's tastes have changed: "The trend in retail was marketing products with fat or sugar substitutes, often artificially developed or chemically altered, in order to appeal to consumers' desire to watch their weight. But, in actuality, the majority of these products do not satisfy the average consumer's requirements for taste or consistency. The result is that the average person will consume more of the Ôhealthier' artificial product than they will of the natural product."
A point of difference for Wholly Wholesome is their commitment to making products from pure ingredients that taste even better than conventional baked food. Wholly Wholesome's founder, Doon Wintz, states: "Consumers are shifting their focus from cutting out fat, carbs or calories to eliminating preservatives, artificial additives and partially hydrogenated oils or trans fats. And they are realizing that high quality, wholesome ingredients, go hand-in-hand with delicious, fresh flavor."
The movement toward natural, wholesome foods is here to stay. Increasingly more Americans are wary of a correlation between artificial preservatives, additives, colorings and flavorings and various health concerns. Science suggests that many products claiming to be lower in saturated fat actually contain partially hydrogenated oils and trans fatty acids, which are proving to be as bad or worse for the heart than saturated fats. Wholly Wholesome has never used hydrogenated fats and palm kernel oils or cottonseed oils. In addition, Wholly Wholesome products contain no bleached or bromated flour and contain only organic evaporated cane juice.
Wholly Wholesome's products are being embraced by singles and families with busy schedules who want great tasting, fast and convenient food, with none of the health hazards associated with fast food or convenience shopping. Wholly Wholesome recognizes that consumers are hungry for wholesome, natural foods that identify with their desire to eat less processed and potentially dangerous artificial foods, and that is the key to their success.
Wholly Wholesome Wholicious™ products are wholly delicious, made from the finest wholesome, natural ingredients available. The company is dedicated to providing the very best ready-to-bake, or thaw-and-serve baked goods, so everyone can enjoy "traditional indulgent" baked goods with "better-for-you" ingredients. Wholly Wholesome products are available nationwide in the freezer section and in-store bakeries of natural products stores and natural marketplaces within supermarkets, as well as through premium foodservice vendors. Beyond Label Comparison: Deciphering the Ingredients List
Wholly Wholesome Products Meet Demand of Discerning Natural Products Consumer
Morristown, NJ, March 2005 — Wholly Wholesome, a company dedicated to providing truly natural, delicious baked goods, encourages consumers to look beyond standard label comparison when deciding what foods to buy for themselves, their friends and their family. Wholly Wholesome recommends focusing on the ingredients list when deciding which items to take off the shelves. By combining inventive recipes and the finest ingredients, Wholly Wholesome ensures that their extensive line of cakes, cookies, tea breads, cheesecakes and rolls are the best tasting ready-to-bake and ready-to-eat goods available.
Here are just a few of the ways that Wholly Wholesome guarantees that their ingredients are "truly natural":
-
Wholly Wholesome is committed to making products that contain no hydrogenated fats, no palm kernel oil and no trans fatty acids. According to the Hartman Group, most consumers are concerned and aware of trans fats and 4 out of 10 consumers are "very concerned" about this serious new health risk. By January 2006, under the new FDA regulations, all food marketers will have to disclose the levels of trans fats in their packaged goods. As alternatives to conventional foodservice shortening, Wholly Wholesome uses both pure natural butter and non-hydrogenated vegetable shortening, as well as naturally unsaturated oils such as canola and olive oil. By using natural butter or high quality unsaturated and expeller pressed oils Wholly Wholesome is able to ensure that their products are better than homemade.
-
Another essential way that Wholly Wholesome bakes truly natural products is by not using synthetic preservatives, artificial colors, flavors or additives. Wholly Wholesome believes that food looks and tastes its best when made with all natural ingredients.
-
Wholly Wholesome is also committed to using the most natural flours and grains in their baked goods. Wholly Wholesome uses no bleach or chemical compounds to artificially whiten flour. Many flour mills use chemical bleaches similar to the bleach used to whiten your clothes. Wholly Wholesome does not believe in risking the presence of bleach in your food. Wholly Wholesome does not use bromated flour in any of its products, preferring not to use potassium bromide to artificially accelerate the aging process necessary for flour to develop gluten naturally. Though bromate is legal in the U.S. and Japan, it is banned in the U.K. and Canada and was declared a carcinogen in California in 1991.
-
Another point of difference is that Wholly Wholesome products do not contain conventionally refined sugars or synthetic sweeteners. They use organic evaporated cane juice in their products, which is less processed than conventionally refined sugar. Organic evaporated cane juice is also made with an energy conscious single crystallization process instead of a multiple crystallization process necessary for standard sugar. Wholly Wholesome believes that the added benefit of chemical free, energy saving and organic sugar makes enjoying their products that much sweeter.
-
In keeping with their desire for minimally processed and chemical-free food, Wholly Wholesome does not use genetically modified or irradiated ingredients. With a January 2001 report from an expert panel of the Royal Society of Canada declaring it "scientifically unjustifiable" to presume that GM foods are safe and a 2002 UK Royal Society report saying that genetic modification "could lead to unpredicted harmful changes in the nutritional state of foods," Wholly Wholesome knows that consumers want their foods to be free from any possible unknown health complications.
"More and more Americans are looking for simple, reliable, easy to prepare baked goods that are truly natural and fit into both our busy lifestyles and modern sensibilities," says Doon Wintz, founder of Wholly Wholesome, "we are dedicated to ensuring that our products meet all of these requirements and that our customers make no sacrifices in taste."
Wholly Wholesome Truly Natural Baked Goods
Heating Up the Frozen Foods Section
Morristown, NJ, March 2005 — There is a hot new name in frozen baked goods - Wholly Wholesome. Their extensive line of deliciously wholesome pies, cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, pie crusts, fruit breads and pocket breads offer new and exciting ready-to-bake and thaw-and-serve baked goods for both the most discriminating natural products consumer and discerning food lover.
Today's busy consumers increasingly relate satisfaction with convenience. In a recent consumer study, in addition to great taste, 28% of consumers were looking for product quality and 23% for convenience. With U.S. Census data suggesting that small households are the largest and fastest growing population in the U.S., more consumers are looking for products that fit their lifestyle needs: convenience, flexible portions and great taste. They want the best foods in the quickest amount of time with a minimum of waste. The $4.3 billion market for ready-to-bake and shelf stable baked goods is hungry for Wholly Wholesome's convenient, premium baked products.
According to a new survey by the American Dietetic Association, nine out of ten Americans say they multitask while preparing meals and 62% say they are too busy to sit down and eat most of the time. Ken Hines, Vice President of Wholly Wholesome, believes the consumer's desire for premium ingredients is of equal importance to the frozen food industry as the move continues towards convenience and ease of preparation. Hines forecasts that the frozen food companies which recognize that this time-pressed consumer is the same consumer looking to cut down on processed foods will see the largest growth.
All Wholly Wholesome products share these unique, premium qualities:
-
Wholly Wholesome products are free of synthetic preservatives, artificial colors, flavors and additives.
-
Each product contains no conventionally refined sugars or synthetic sweeteners and only contains organic evaporated cane juice, which is less processed than conventionally refined sugar.
-
All contain no hydrogenated fats, no palm kernel or cottonseed oils and no trans fatty acids.
-
Wholly Wholesome does not use bleached or bromated flour. Wholly Wholesome does not believe in using chemicals to artificially whiten flour. As flour has to be aged for the gluten process to develop, many manufacturers use potassium bromide to artificially accelerate the aging process. Wholly Wholesome chooses to use naturally aged flour.
-
Wholly Wholesome uses no irradiated ingredients.
Doon Wintz, founder of Wholly Wholesome, has seen many dramatic shifts in the quality of frozen foods during his more than 20 years in the industry: "Consumers are becoming savvier about ingredients, and more conscious about nutrition, quality and food safety. As such, they read labels and look for natural ingredients. This trend is only going to continue as consumers increasingly understand that a lifestyle shift towards better health revolves around what they eat which first starts with healthier ingredients," says Wintz.
Wholly Wholesome believes quality and integrity are driving brand loyalty in the frozen foods industry. Wintz says, "We started Wholly Wholesome nine years ago because we saw that the need for a natural products company committed to making the finest quality, best tasting and truly natural baked goods was an issue ignored for too long. Our commitment to quality has created a loyal and growing following by both the most selective natural products consumers and the most quality conscious food connoisseurs."
